NEIGHBORS

I.

They moved in with a whoosh

Transforming stale lawn into Shimmers of Beauty

Gazebos, waterfalls, fishponds, arched bridges

Bringing Laughter

Where once only Despair reigned.

Our new neighbors…coming home to nest.

II.

“Come celebrate Christmas early!”

Their joy-filled invitation gave us pause…

Yet we all traipsed over

Admired sparkling decor,

Sipped mulled wine, nibbled home-baked cookies

And breathed Simple Joys together.

III.

Albert’s first stroke took him by surprise.

When he crawled back to his isolation

Our new neighbor’s porch and kind heart offered the medicine he craved.

It was she who called estranged relatives

when the second stroke struck him down.

Her heart of simple service shining bright for us all.
